On Monday, May 19th, ICHA will begin with asphalt slurry operations for half of the University Hills community. This year’s project is limited to the residential streets in our older areas of the community (west of Gabrielino Drive and north of California Avenue) see the map: Areas 1-7). No commuter streets will be slurried this year (Los Trancos, Vista Bonita, Gabrielino, California, or Owen Court between Vista Bonita Dr. and California Ave. The remaining residential streets will be slurried this time next year.
The street slurry project continues through June 4th. Work hours for the project will be Monday through Friday, 7:30AM – 4PM.
This year we will slurry seal three streets per day. The process starts with crews cleaning the street; then the actual slurry application, followed by drying time. Once dry, crews will remove any barricades, and the street will be open for use. There are some areas where two or more streets converge. In these situations where it sounds as though your could be trapped, we will slurry only a portion of the street so that traffic may pass. The crew will return at a later date to complete the area. There should be no situation where vehicular access to your home is blocked (the exception is the published slurry day for each residential street).
Please click here for a detailed schedule. Streets will be closed for a single day within the 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM schedule. During that time, vehicles should be parked in garages, driveways or be moved to an adjacent street if you anticipate needing your car on your assigned day. Please plan for use of your car, but also for deliveries, nannies, landscapers, contractors, etc.
Any vehicle left on the street during a posted slurry day will be towed. If you anticipate guests or are leaving town, please make arrangements to park on an unaffected street. this project will generate noise, dust, and the smell of asphalt.
