A food collection bin benefitting the Fresh Basic Needs Hub campus food pantry is now installed in the Community Center Lounge. The bin is accepting all non-perishable foods and toiletries. Items will be picked up by food pantry personnel and made available to students at the pantry.

The Fresh Basic Needs Hub is the largest food pantry in the UC system and targets students struggling with inadequate access to food. A 2015 undergraduate survey at UCI found that 45 percent of Anteaters had experienced food insecurity in the prior year.

Sponsored by the University Hills HRB, the food collection bin was delivered during the UHills Repair Cafe event on November 18. Andrea Gutierrez, Basic Needs Coordinator at the UCI Student Outreach & Retention Center (SOAR), attended the event, discussed the food pantry and engaged with residents.
